In-Person Health Reminders

posted Mar 25, 2021, 3:16 PM by Kira Alexander

There was an outdial sent to all families as a reminder of the health protocols for returning to in-person learning. Thank you for your attention and cooperation.
If your child exhibits any of the following symptoms: fever, shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea or any other symptoms of illness, whether or not you believe it's related to COVID-19, you will need to keep them home for at least 24 hours and until symptoms are no longer happening.
Please know that in light of Governor Ducey's executive order relaxing mask restrictions for some places, his order for masks at all schools is still in effect.

AZDHS Emergency Measure 2020-04 is still in effect, requiring masks in all K12 schools. Masking is one of the top mitigation strategies for safe in-person learning as recommended by the CDC.

Masks must be worn on school campuses, on school buses and during school-associated activities by all students, faculty, staff, contractors, and visitors.

Acknowledgement Form and ParentVUE Activation

posted Mar 11, 2021, 3:19 PM by Kira Alexander

Before returning students to in-person instruction, parents will need to complete a Washington Elementary School District COVID-19 Parent Acknowledgement and Disclosure Form. The form discusses taking your child’s temperature before school, staying home if they are sick, limited access to campus and contacting your school if your child comes into contact with someone who tests positive. It also discusses how the school will monitor symptoms and who to contact. Families will need to acknowledge reading and agreeing to comply with the safety precautions. If you completed this form in the fall, you do not need to complete it again.  If you do not have an activation code, please contact the office.

Gifted Testing

posted Feb 5, 2021, 10:29 AM by Kira Alexander   [ updated Feb 5, 2021, 10:32 AM ]

Gifted Testing is taking place over the next few months. If you feel you would like your child to be evaluated for gifted services, please email your child's teacher or have a conversation with them at parent/teacher conferences to determine if your child would be a good candidate for testing.  Please keep in mind, if we are still in the virtual mode, students will need to come to school for testing.  Online testing is not an option.  Additionally, due to the current circumstances, the number of students tested on any given day will be limited to accommodate for social distancing. Once we have numbers, we will be able to create a schedule and notify parents of testing dates and times.

Should you have any further questions, please feel free to email our Teacher of Gifted,  You can also find more information on our current newsletter.

Virtual Learning starts November 23

posted Nov 24, 2020, 1:39 PM by Kira Alexander

Thank you for your continued flexibility, support, and willingness to partner with us during this unique time in your child’s educational journey.  Here are the changes that will be occurring with our instruction beginning Monday, November 23, 2020.

The Washington Elementary School District follows the matrix from the state and local health officials, the Governor and Superintendent of Public Instruction to determine the appropriate learning model for our students. Because we have not seen a substantial decrease in benchmarks, students in the Hybrid A/B Learning Model will return to Online Distance Learning five days a week beginning Monday, November 23.

 Important information to know:

·         Students that attended in person (HYBRID) will continue to receive instruction from their in person teacher in a VIRTUAL format (5 days per week).  This means that students will no longer be coming on campus for instruction.  Because all instruction is done virtually, students must report to their classes each day at 8:15 a.m. then follow their schedule on Google Calendar.  Check for papers that went home with students with directions.

·         Students that attended ONLINE will continue to receive instruction from their ONLINE teacher.  No changes will be made to their schedule.

·         Please continue to pay attention to district and school communication including emails, outdials, and social media posts for the most up to date information.

·         Daily attendance continues to be important.  Please help us by ensuring that your child attends all classes throughout the day, using Google Calendar and Google Meets.

·         Work completion is equally important.  Please support your child’s academic progress by ensuring that they are completing their work assigned through Google Classroom in a timely manner.

·         If you have not already done so, please take a moment to like our Acacia Facebook page and check our website ( for updates.

·         As always, we have a team of staff members who are eager and willing to help with any difficulty you may face.  Feel free to reach out directly to your child’s teacher by email or contact the front office (602-896-5000).

I know this is a difficult time.  We will miss seeing Acacia A+++ students in our building but look forward to the day when we can safely return to in person learning.

myOn Assignment; 20 minutes of Reading every night

posted Nov 13, 2020, 12:06 PM by Kira Alexander   [ updated Nov 13, 2020, 12:12 PM ]

We are very fortunate to have a supplemental reading program at Acacia that allows your students to access many books from home.  The myON program also allows us to set students reading at their individual independent reading level (where they read without difficulty). It then bumps the levels up so that our child grows in their reading level and comprehension. This program gathers information about your child’s reading and helps the teacher pinpoint areas of individual improvement. The program also takes the place of the “reading log” as it keeps track of all reading.

This has been my real “Assignment” for the past 19 years and all students have been pretested and trained to do this online program at home.  I am asking that each student read at least 20 minutes a night on our program.  This equals 100 minutes a week! Because we know nights can be busy for families, we have added the entire weekend to the count. This is another reason we searched for something easy that can be done anywhere with a Chromebook. Of course, we know that books in your hands are wonderful and encourage students to read these after their 20 minutes or more. I am such a firm believer in reading outside of the school day. I am also a mom, and have seen the success for my own children as they pursued their careers. As always, please reach out if you have any questions!
